Hosting a vision board party is a fun activity to do with your family and close friends. It’s an opportunity to redefine goals, pivot, refocus on the future with optimism and create, visualize and affirm your personal vision for the upcoming year. Unfortunately, due to this strange age of ‘Social Distancing’ and the Covid-19 global pandemic we have been advised to avoid large gatherings. And everyone has been forced to resort to virtual meetings, virtual exercise and various other virtual activities. So of course, a Virtual Vision Board Party is the perfect way to reconnect and celebrate the upcoming New Year. Below are tips to host a Virtual Vision Board Party:
Digital Platform
Choose which platform will be used to host the event: Zoom or Skype
Digital Invitations
Create a digital invitation to let your friends and family know the details of the virtual Vision Board Party. I recommend Canva. It’s easy to use and they offer several party invitation design templates.
Snack Ideas
Before the virtual vision board party, encourage your guests to have snacks and drinks on hand. This will eliminate the need for guests to walk away from the screen to grab snacks/water. You might want to include this detail in your digital invitation. Below are a few snack suggestions:
- Wine with cheese, crackers and fruit
- Champagne and chocolate covered strawberries
- Nacho chips, guacamole, salsa and margaritas
- Kettle Popcorn or Peanuts and Water
- Pretzels and Ginger Ale
- Pink Moscato Wine and Smoked Salmon Dip
Virtual Vision Board Party Agenda
Welcome all your guests, share short details about yourself and introduce guests who have not met each other.
Ice Breakers – Some of your guests may be unfamiliar with a zoom video call and the experience can be awkward, so it’s up to you, “the host” to eliminate the awkwardness and ensure everyone is comfortable and having fun!
A great way to do this is to share something about yourself. Explain why you began creating a Vision Board and how it’s helped to transform your life.
Below are some other examples of great ways to break the ice:
Ask a Fun question: Get to know your quests by asking them a random fun question. Example: If you could have any superpower what would you choose? Where is your dream vacation? What are you grateful for?
Virtual Vision Board Conclusion
Sharing the Vision Boards: Have everyone share their vision boards (if they’re comfortable) and explain what their main goal for the new year is and what are their short term goals for the next few months. Encourage your guests to frame their vision boards and hang in a visible place where they are constantly reminded of their dreams and goals.
Accountability Partner: Have everyone choose an accountability partner. Having an accountability partner will encourage your guests to remain focused on their goals. Schedule a follow-up Vision Board accountability call within 21-30 days to see where everyone is on their goals.
Goodbye: Thank everyone again for joining the call. Leave them with a positive word of affirmation and cheers to a great New Year!
Additional Virtual Party Tips:
- Be prepared for technical difficulties. Not everyone has reliable internet connection so be patient and prepared if one of your guests is having some technical issues.
- Keep everyone engaged! Avoid awkward silences by asking your guests open ended questions.
- Be respectful and avoid talking over one another.
- Prior to event, create a time line to limit the length of the party. Overall the party should last 2 to 2.5 hours or longer if the conversation and wine is flowing easily.
- Remain on schedule by bringing everyone back on topic if non-topic conversations runoff for a long time.
- Finally! Relax and be flexible! And be prepared not to be in control in the entire virtual session. Remember that your guests are in the comfort of their own home and you might experience some surprises. So as the host, it’s your job to facilitate and set the tone for the entire virtual Vision Board party.
Hosting a virtual vision board party will not only get people excited for the New Year but it would also encourage everyone to VISUALIZE their future! Since the COVID-19 pandemic began, the world feels a little scary at times which makes it imperative to visualize positivity into the New Year. Remember the most important part – Fellowship, laugh, sip wine and have fun with your guests!
