What a ride we’re all on, huh? Just a few weeks ago, I was on vacation celebrating my birthday on the beach and now the world has been sent to our homes and basically placed in ‘time-out’ due to COVID-19. We’ve been mandated to stay at home and only leave our houses for essentials. Am I afraid? Certainly, I have moments throughout each day when I allow my mind to wonder and fear creeps in. While it’s completely normal to experience fear and anxiety and want to stay informed of current world events; it’s equally important to refrain from too much news media. For me, the challenge is to create a perfect balance of peace while navigating the uncertainty and stress of these trying times. I’ve learned to practice gratitude the second fear attempts to sneak in to avoid falling into a downward spiral of heaviness. And, instead of having a pity party – I decided to throw myself an ongoing ‘Self-Care’ party. Here’s a few tips I’ve implemented into my daily routine to CELEBRATE my time indoors:
- Prayer / Meditation
- Read a daily devotional or Inspirational book.
- Participate in a daily prayer call.
- Create a ‘Happy Space’ for yourself in the home. Your space should include some of your favorite things (i.e books, family picture, scented candle, journal, pen/highlighter, cozy throw).
- Create a playlist and listen to your favorite artists/music (I’ve been listening to 80 & 90’s old school music for the last two weeks).
- Maintain a Gratitude journal and jot down a list of your favorite positive affirmations & quotes.
- Record a Tik Tok video. It’s all the rave right now – especially since we’re all (well most of us) are practicing ‘Social Distancing’! And, of course, I’ve recorded a couple of Tik Tok videos with my daughter.
- Watch old movies – particularly comedies.
- Play board games and Classics like Tic-Tac-Toe, UNO, Connect Four.
- Burn your favorite scented candle – Grapefruit & Lemon scent are sure to boost your mood!
- Try new recipes.
- Pamper your hands and feet by giving yourself a mani/pedi. Grab an Emory board, cuticle remover, polish remover & nail polish and paint away.
- Piece a puzzle together.
- Create a Vision Board. It’s never too late to pursue a dream or goal.
- Prepare a budget & re-structure your finances.
- Take a daily walk (Nature Trails are very therapeutic & the fresh air is amazing).
- Regular phone calls to Family and friends who uplift your spirit and encourage your soul.
- Sip Wine (Pink Moscato is my jam!)
- Soak in a hot bubble bath infused with lavender oil (for a relaxing, therapeutic & calming effect) and Epsom salt (to soothe sore joints/muscles and relieve fatigue and stress).
- Learn a new skill or enhance an existing skill.
- Daydream of a time and place you were most Happy.
- End the day with a prayer and thank God for allowing you to experience another day.
